Simulations of Recent Heavy Ion Beam Matter Heating Experiments at GSI

چکیده
In December 2003, the SIS-18 delivered a 350 MeV/u intense uranium beam and a record high intensity of more than 4 × 10 particles was achieved. The beam focal spot was elliptic while the beam power profile along the radial direction was Gaussian with a (FWHM)x = 0.85 mm and (FWHM)y = 1.6 mm. The experimentally measured temporal beam power profile is shown in Fig.1 which is very similar to a Gaussian with a FWHM of about 300 ns.

Modeling of brightness temperature under intense heavy ion beam loading of target
HIHEX experiments at GSI-Darmstadt are carried out for investigation of material properties and processes in matter under intense heavy ion beam loading. In these experiments [1, 2], a heavy ion beam of U with an initiation energy of 350AMeV was used to irradiate a lead foil with a thickness of 250 μm. The temperature of the expanded part of the foil was measured by a pyrometer through the tran...
متن کاملDynamic confinement of targets heated quasi-isochorically with heavy ion beams.
Isochoric heating of matter by intense heavy ion beams promises to become a fruitful approach to warm dense matter studies. For heating times that are long on the hydrodynamic time scale of the target response a tamped target is essential. The proposed dynamic confinement provides homogeneous target heating by a low-Z tamper, which allows one to apply powerful x-ray scattering diagnostics. To d...
متن کاملCreation of High Energy Density in Matter with Heavy Ion Beams for Equation of State Studies
Precise equations of state (EOS) measurements of matter under extreme conditions driven by heavy ion beams require proper target configurations to create well defined states of the studied material. The aim of this work is to evaluate the potential of the SIS-18 heavy ion beam at GSI to produce samples of matter at high energy density suitable for accurate EOS measurements. First the basic prin...

Intense heavy ion beams from the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung ~GSI, Darmstadt, Germany! accelerator facilities, together with two high energy laser systems: petawatt high energy laser for ion experiments ~PHELIX! and nanosecond high energy laser for ion experiments ~NHELIX! are a unique combination to facilitate pioneering beam-plasma interaction experiments, to generate and probe high...
متن کاملInfluence of focal length and beam rigidity on final focusing at HHT
For future experiments on investigation of high-energydensity (HED) matter at GSI where an intense heavy ion beam and a petawatt laser beam from PHELIX will be used simultaneously, a new vacuum target chamber is required. Due to dimensions of the laser guiding and focusing optics, the new chamber has to be considerably larger than the presently installed at the HHT. It may therefore be necessar...
